(Borland and Sederland)


Only Borland today; Sederland on field trip: Make-up on December 11


Flutes (Hanna: No instrument; Khrystina: instrument arrived late; Aja: 1st time w/instrument; Hannah: All material)

What we did
  • Reviewed Fingering for Bb, C and D; whole note/rest rhythm (line 1, 2, 4 on page 6 of book)
  • Discovered that the D to C fingering is difficult so we developed strategies to achieve our goals
  • Looked at Line 7
  • Aja: getting initial sound on headjoint

What to do for next lesson
  • Coordinate changing from D to C (fingerings and pitch); This is line 3 on page 6
  • Practice meeting proficiency of performance targets on line 7

Looking Ahead
  • Sustaining 8 count notes
  • Discovering how to read and execute ties and slurs
  • Reading, counting and playing music with half note/rest and quarter note/rest
  • Articulating with a legato tonguing style.


Trumpet (Camden: No instrument; Kaylee: first time w/instrument)

    • Initial buzzing and sound production
    • Play C, D and E (rote learning)
    • Showed her in the book what we did (book is borrowed; she needs to purchase it)

What we did
  • Brea: Began to put mouthpiece, ligature and reed together but dropped the mouthpiece and chipped it so it was unplayable.
    • We (CCSD) will need to replace it

  • Mouthpiece assembly, instrument assembly, learn to read and finger C,D,E, play line 1,2,4 and 7
